About Me

Welcome! I’m Alison, the founder of Paws On Planes Inc. My journey has been profoundly shaped by the healing and therapeutic power of my service dog, Luciano, who has deeply transformed my life. This business was born from my passion to help others experience the same emotional and mental well-being that my service dog has provided me. We are all meant to thrive, but sometimes we need a helping paw along the way.

My journey began in May 2020 when my mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. At that time, I had recently moved from sunny San Diego, CA, to the small town of Red Oak, IA, to be with my fiancé, Michael. I found myself traveling back and forth between Iowa and California to assist with my mother’s healthcare needs while juggling a full-time job in Iowa. This was both mentally and physically exhausting. When home, Luciano was always so excited to see me and I would hold him on my lap during the car ride home from the airport. The relief I experienced made me realize he was more than just the family dog. During this challenging period, I realized the profound impact Luciano had on my mental health and emotional well-being. I began to take the necessary steps to train Luciano as my psychiatric service dog, allowing me to care for my mother with him by my side.

The despair I felt when it became clear my mom would not win her battle with pancreatic cancer was overwhelming. In the wake of her passing, I struggled with extreme anxiety and depression. Luciano provided me with the lifeline I needed, helping me navigate through the darkest moments of my life. While many are familiar with service dogs assisting those with physical disabilities, psychiatric service dogs support individuals with invisible disabilities.

As a frequent traveler between Red Oak and San Diego, I understand the unique challenges of traveling with a service dog. Over the years, I’ve learned valuable tips and tricks to ensure our journeys are comfortable and stress-free. At Paws On Planes Inc., my goal is to share this knowledge and empower you to travel with confidence and ease. I believe in the therapeutic power of dog companionship, especially in today’s overstimulating and stressful world. I am committed to providing personalized support, resources, and guidance to help you and your furry companion explore the world together.
